What are HS Codes?
HS (Harmonized System) Codes are internationally standardized numerical codes used to classify traded products for customs and tax purposes. Pakistan uses PCT (Pakistan Customs Tariff) codes based on the HS system.
Code Format
HS codes are typically 4 to 8 digits. For example: 8517.1200
- First 2 digits: Chapter (e.g., 85 = Electrical machinery)
- Next 2 digits: Heading (e.g., 8517 = Telephones)
- Remaining digits: Subheading (specific product classification)
How to Search HS Codes
- Go to HS Codes from the sidebar menu
- Use the search box to search by code number or description
- For example, type "milk" to find dairy product codes, or type "8517" to find telephone equipment codes
- The system shows matching codes with their description, UOM (unit of measure), and GST rate
Auto-Fill Feature
When you select an HS code (whether on the HS Codes page, Product Inventory, or Invoice creation), the system automatically fills:
- HS Code Value: The numeric code (read-only, cannot be edited manually)
- UOM: The standard unit of measure for that product category
- GST Rate: The applicable tax rate
